Plot Summary
On the eve of his campaign launch for a seat in the US Senate, a small town District Attorney receives word that the governor has exonerated a death row inmate whom the DA prosecuted five years earlier for the murder of a local police officer. In the wake of the ex-inmate's release and through the prism of the media frenzy, what unfolds is a public vetting of the DA's record. When hard evidence of actual impropriety finds it way into his possession, the exonerated man seeks out the DA for answers.

One of the best movies I have ever seen
I saw this movie at the sundance film festival. It is by far one of the best pictures I have ever seen. It is in the same class as dead man walking. Everyone should see this film..
Great movie
A great independent film. It does what so many great films do, by posing a lot of really hard questions, but it doesn't shove any preachy answers down your throat. Well acted, well directed, and well shot. Very worth seeing.
powerful movie means strong emotions and hard review
How do you talk about liking something that intrinsically is not likable? That does not mean the movie itself; rather questions it asks. Forgiven is not an easy movie. There is nothing about the situation that either of main characters that anyone wants to identify with (arguably both switch roles between protagonist and antagonist). Nevertheless it asks questions and provokes emotions that are deep, real and linger like an acrid but addicting taste. It is a must watch.
