Plot Summary
Jenny, a musical prodigy, finds herself behinds bars for murder, but one person wants to help her out Traude, the 80-year-old piano instructor who has taught at the prison for years. Traude plans to enter Jenny in prestigious competition but will the headstrong Jenny waste her one chance for redemption? (Film is in German Dialect, English Subtitles)

Fresh: A women-behind-bars plot seething with lesbianism, incest, hanging and catfights -- on paper, at least, Four Minutes promises more fun than a Roger Corman marathon.
Fresh: By dint of strong perfs (especially from relative newcomer Hannah Herzsprung) and powerful use of music, the pic works in spite of itself.
Rotten: So relentlessly oppressive it suffocates its potentially strong themes and characterizations.
Fresh: Although the tone of the film drifts precariously toward the self-serious, writer/director Chris Kraus redeems himself with snatches of dark jailhouse humor and a quiet attentiveness to minute gradations of human feeling.

Four Minutes
It has been a while since I saw this film. However...I still mention it whenever I speak of favorite films. I was captured early on by the story and found myself yelling at the screen. I highly recommend this film. As suggested...The final four minutes are quite extraordinary. I loved this film.
