Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer definitely has on its hands a picture that is out of the ordinary.
Fresh: Director Tod Browning, one of the few truly individual directors in the U. S., is a specialist in horror.
Fresh: If the heart of the horror movie is the annihilating Other, the Other has never appeared with more vividness, teasing sympathy, and terror than in this 1932 film by Tod Browning.
Fresh: A masterpiece.

There Will Never Be Another Film Like This
I was surprised to see this listed as a horror film, especially when it just looked like a circus sideshow exploitation flick from the 30s. But then I watched it. This little film truly is something to see, if only for the reason given in the title sequence: you are never going to see something like this in a feature film ever again. The acting is completely trash and the story is kind of sensational, but really that's not that big a problem given the images and and scenes that Browning leaves the viewer with. It's not the best film in the world, but is definitely worth seeing.
The description makes it sound boring...
...but I love this movie. And it left me disturbed for days afterwards. Now that's quality. It's actually a great movie though, with a fairly simplistic yet interesting plot and a great cast of real life "freaks". Don't expect any modern horror jumping out and going boo. This one's all about the build up. Hurray for itunes! I'm glad they have it available.
Gobble, Gobble! One of Us!
Not the most cinematically beautiful film ever made, but the film's moral enlightenment makes it worth the watch. It's unnerving to see the so called "freaks" for the first time, but if you can push past their peculiarities, you'll begin to understand the difficulties that these unusual humans face from day to day.
