Plot Summary

Available Same Day as Theaters. What if physics determined the laws of attraction? In a parallel world where human frequencies determine luck, love, and destiny, Zak, a young college student, must overcome science in order to love Marie, who emits a different frequency than his own. In an attempt to make their love a reality, Zak experiments on the laws of nature, putting in danger the cosmic equilibrium of fate and everything he holds dear. This unique and experimental drama blends science fiction and romance to create a futuristic tale where love, science, and fate collide.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: While the detached, deadpan tone and occasionally stilted acting might leave some viewers flat, there's no doubting the fierce intelligence behind this admirable puzzle box of a movie. – Daniel M. Gold, New York Times, May 22, 2014

Fresh: Like youth itself, the opening of Frequencies - an uncommonly ambitious science-fiction romance - is sparkling and unsettling at once. – Alan Scherstuhl, Village Voice, May 20, 2014

Fresh: at once a star-crossed romance, an allegory of (class) discord and (musical) harmony, and a theological investigation into nature and nurture, free will and determinism. It's out there, alright - and there's nothing else out there quite like it. – Anton Bitel, Sight and Sound, May 26, 2014

Cerebral Sci-Fi

I've watched this movie twice at the Kansas City Film Festival. After seeing it the first time, I went back the next day and saw it again because it was so good. It's a cerebral film about luck and love. As you watch the film you are slowly introduced more of the film and led on an epiphany.

It's a great movie that I'll certainly be watching over and over again. Pro tip: watch it with a friend so you can pick a part the movie at the end and share your ah-ha moments.

Over reached

This movie starts off pretty good and even through the middle it held my attention… then it started to stretch itself really thin. It had me thinking that even the writers couldn’t explain away the concepts or could only do so with these vague connections. The ending is very “blah” and anticlimactic. I couldn’t tell if something “bad” or “good” had happened. You care more for the characters in the beginning of the show and oddly care less for them by the end… which is counterintuitive to me. Whatever big reveal the movie was hoping to deliver, it fell flat on its face. Its enough for me to say pass on this one.

Sci-Fantasy

I’d say it is science-fantasy, in that it’s not about technology which doesn’t exist yet, but technology which will never exist, because it goes against the laws of nature. But so what. The movie is very interesting, it’s an intellectual film. I never give 5 stars except in rare cases, but it’s a solid 4.
