Loved it.

The big studios don't make smart thrillers like this these days. Great twists. And it is very well-acted, too. The lead is especially good. Glad I got a chance to see it.

Well done

No doubt you've seen this formula before - young, attractive woman tries to unravels the mystery that surrounds the weird things only she can see while her overly-rational male partner is off at work during the day. The more she finds out, the less she trusts her companion, but she continues her investigations despite him frustrating her efforts by providing explanations that would be perfectly reasonable outside of a horror movie. While I would absolutely question my girlfriend's sanity if she came to me complaining about ghosts, I think the "strong female lead" in supernatural horror movies is one of the more sexist roles I have seen in movies. Is she really seeing an apparition, or are her lady parts pumping out hormones that corrupt her irrational, female brain? Why is the male considered an obstructive force no matter what his intentions are? These are by no means spoilers, as the story does have a genuine mystery to it, but the characters and their interactions are so cliched that I have to wonder if anything else is even possible in horror anymore.

So, alright, the movie follows a now well-established pattern in modern horror. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily, and in the case of this movie, it's fairly well done. The cinematography is top notch for an indie movie, the acting is mostly excellent and the director did a very good job of making the movie feel like a classic haunt story. The music very well evokes the emotional content of the scene, and as a composer myself, that is a huge plus (horror movies often get this wrong and ruin the mood quickly). The pacing is quick enough to maintain interest without losing you and there was not a single shot that I didn't think should have been in the final cut. There are some editing issues (items appearing in scene after being taken off just before) and some sound gaffes (an old woman slurping a hard-boiled egg), but nothing too offensive. For really great technical work, acting and a serviceable story, this movie easily earns 3 stars and is well worth the time of any horror movie fan.

Unexpected twists and turns!

Don't let the fact that it only has about 15 reviews and no Rotten Tomatoes rating dissuade you from watching! It's a quality thriller with twists and turns that'll keep you guessing.

I had watched the trailer so many times over the past few weeks but kept passing it up because so few people had rated it and there were no critic or viewer reviews from Rotten Tomatoes. The plot is interesting and, like the main character, you won't know who to trust. Is the main character seeing ghosts? Is it all in her head? Is it all real?

Check it out and give it a review so people don't fall into the same trap I did!!
