Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: "G.B.F" works its concept to death as its silly story builds to a prom scene that revolves around a tepid, underwhelming homage to "Carrie." – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jan 23, 2014

Fresh: Genially cartoonish but also rather sweet. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Nov 22, 2013

Fresh: Until being young and gay is a nonissue for everyone everywhere, these kinds of stories will always have their place. – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, Jan 16, 2014

Fresh: [A] very funny and thoughtful take on how straights often objectify queers - and how increased visibility in the media can result in an expectation to conform to stereotypes. – Sherilyn Connelly, Village Voice, Jan 21, 2014

Love it

Love this movie it was Amazing !!! :)

Hysterical and way too quotable

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing GBF while it was on the film festival circuit, and I have no words to describe how hysterically funny it is. Seriously, we couldn't hear half the jokes being made because we were too busy laughing at the previous joke. It's that funny, and it's witty, clever humor that includes pop culture, gay experiences, and a heavy handed dose of Megan Mullally's amazing improvisation. For instance, the time when she walks in on the boys sitting listening to music and shouts "you guys got any poppers?" or the time when she narrates/reacts to a particularly, um, graphic scene in Brokeback Mountain. If you're looking for the spiritual successor to Mean Girls, this succeeds handily.

While it is rated R, there is no nudity and not really any sex talk either - it is really PG or PG13 but the MPAA is homophobic.

A few other great lines:
"I know my future GBF is just waiting to come out of the closet and tell me how fierce I am!"
"Wanna sip extra large low fat iced coffees and talk s*** about people?"
"You don't even sound like the ones on Bravo..."
"I meant, like, gurl with a U."
And far too many others.

AMAZING MOVIE

Will have you laughing the whole way through. Charming movie and you will want to see it over and over again.
