Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: This pricey, juiceless pulp could never have been killed by critics, simply because it was already dead. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: I could load you up with more plot details, but this mercilessly incoherent, galactically stupid movie left me too numb to type. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Feb 3, 2011

Rotten: After a first hour that plays like a bad TV show, Sommers hits his groove with an over-the-top Paris chase sequence that, in turn, leads to an underwater finale that's absurdly overproduced, momentarily diverting, and then instantly forgettable. – Chuck Wilson, Village Voice, Aug 13, 2009

Rotten: G.I. Joe is like watching fireworks with a blindfold on: it's deafening and you feel under attack. – Ramin Setoodeh, Newsweek, Jun 24, 2010

Awesome Action Movie!

This is a really great action movie, kind of a cross between Transformers and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Some people reviewed that this was a bad movie because there was bad acting or a stupid plot. That may be true; however, those components are not the reason most people watch an action movie. If you want to see good acting, watch an academy-award winner; if you want to see a good plot, watch a movie based on a good book. However, most people like action movies for the action, and this movie certainly has plenty of that, with the occational stupid joke thrown in here and there. It doesn't really matter that the plot is stupid, because this movie is cool!

The Death of the Franchise

This film destroyed the franchise. This isn't the same G.I. Joe you know and love growing up. Lead actor Channing Tatum is probably one of the worst actors today. Both Channing and Sienna are there to look good and that's it. Marlon Wayans provides some comic relief, but inevitably becomes an annoying sidekick at the 1 hour mark. The storyline itself is lackluster. It's an origin story (of course), but director Stephen Sommers could have done a better job. If you're a die hard fan of the original G.I. Joe animated series, preserve your happy childhood memories and don't watch this. If you must, rent it. It's not worth the purchase.

And yes, there's a sequel in the works. Yes, you should be worried. Very worried.

Awesome!!

This Movie was the bomb. I can't wait to watch it again.
