Plot Summary

Still reeling after the hard-fought battle to repel Legion, Japan is now reminded of a deadly foe from the past. The Gyaos have returned, and this time the ornery man-eating birds have not only increased their numbers, but also added a menacing new member- Iris- to their destructive little club. Raised by a young girl whose parents Gamera accidentally squished, the flying, blood-sucking squid monster Iris takes her learned hatred and goes out on the warpath. Dr. Nagamine and Inspector Osaka are reunited to help Gamera in his relentless quest to protect and save the human race. Can Gamera ground the Gyaos? Can the turtle tie up the terrible tentacles? Do the hapless humans and the rowdy reptile have what it takes to thwart the revenge of Iris?

Gamera 3: Awesome

You should definitely buy this movie for it is amazing. One of the Best kaiju movies around. Surprisingly good story for a giant monster movie and the special effects are amazing.

OMG OMG OMG!!!

This is the pinnacle of kaiju films, no offense to godzilla. I am so happy this is on itunes. I will get all three 90s Gamera films as they are more progressive and following less in the direction of the godzilla films that add futuristic elements and american knock off ideas. Gamera goes in the direction of legend and has more emotional ties to the characters. This by far has the best CG of any kaiju film ive seen and that is saying alot seeing as how japanese films get minimal funding. The story falls into place like the end of a trilogy but still leaves you hanging. I like the story, direction and cinematography. Much can be lost in the japanese to english translation and may cause moments of 'wha?' but over all you can figure things out. If you have any understanding of some anime story theory then this will be familiar. I enjoy the ties to folklore and the twist of showing Gameras affect on people from different perspectives. This is a much darker film that deals with vengeance but it still exudes redemption, hope and being pushed to the limits. The city attack scene with Gamera chasing the Gaos is amazing and the first time I saw it I was speachless. This is how a giant monster attack should be portrayed; terrifying. Iris is ok too but hes no Legion. How bout some Yog itunes?

Back in Time….

In 1974 I lived in Washington State… I was about 5 years old and I remember seeing a Gamera movie. I always remembered it… I came across these and read the last review about it being the 'pinnacle' of these types of movies so I decided 'what the h***', I'm stuck in a hotel all week I might as well watch all 3…

You get a bit of nostalgia from the first movie… reminding you of all those old movies you watched; recognizing this one's quality in comparison. It isn't perfect, its definitely in the old style, but its done very well. You do have to forgive the translation… it makes a nice segue into higher expect ions from the subsequent movies

The second movie get's better and has a really interesting antagonist to the Gamera protagonist. Not your typical monster movie fare but still a little bit of the old cheese along with modern special effects and some effects that are make you go 'd**n thats good for a monster movie'.

The last one… I have to say, its effects and story telling were superb. Indeed, when you look and realize this movie was made in 1999 you wonder why those effects took so long to make it to other big budget movies in the U.S. All in all, excellent story, excellent effects, excellent continuity and tie-in's.

Just remember, its a monster movie… its not made to be serious drama. Be a kid again… Better yet, watch it with your kids… especially since they will get more of it than you since they grew up on more anime than Speed Racer and Starblazers...
