Plot Summary

Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) returns to his hometown for the funeral of his clinically depressed mother, a journey that reconnects him with some of his past friends. Because the trip coincides with his decision to stop taking his powerful antidepressants, he also begins to reconnect with himself. A chance meeting with Sam (Natalie Portman), a girl also suffering from various maladies, opens up the possibility of rekindling emotional attachments, confronting his psychologist father, and perhaps beginning a new life.

Fresh: The best parts of this droll, quietly witty drama have the ring of truth. – Eric Harrison, Houston Chronicle, Jul 21, 2005

Incredible.

In my opinion, this movie is nothing short of perfect. Zach Braff (writer, director, star, and collaborator of the film's grammy-winning soundtrack), does an incredible job at filling in all of these roles in this wonderful and heartwarming, yet subtly meloncholy and quirky comedy about the spectrum of human emotion and finding oneself. Natalie and Zach have wonderful chemistry, and keep you chuckling under your breath while still allowing you to relate to their extremely realistic interpretaions of their characters. I absolutely love this film. It is hilarious, and the end left me with an indescribable feeling that I have never sensed before. It is one that makes you think afterwards, about your own life and experiences. This film means a lot to me, and I strongly reccomend it to everyone.
