Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Mike Hodges' top-notch adaptation of a Ted Lewis novel not only maintains interest but conveys with rare artistry, restraint and clarity the many brutal, sordid and gamy plot turns. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Caine has been mucking about in a series of potboilers, undermining his acting reputation along the way, but Get Carter shows him as sure, fine and vicious -- a good hero for an action movie. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Ranks up there with the likes of The Long Good Friday as one of the finest home grown films of the past 30 years. – Film4, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Refusing ever to dwell, it cuts sharp rather than deep, but sharp enough. – Time Out, Apr 20, 2010

Excellent

This is by far the best British Gangster film of all time. Michael Caine is superb, the screenplay, cinematography and on location filming accurately depicts the raw essence of England's North East.

Audio is out of sync = $9.99 worth of unwatchable.

Will iTunes release an 'update' to fix this? Five stars for this flick, none for Apple's seeming apathy and carelessness.

Gritty, awesome scenery, and plenty of nudity

Wow, I saw the reviews for Get Carter the remake and thought it best to see the original instead. It's really good despite it's age, it could have been done exactly the same way and of been great. I have to mention that the nudity was frequent, like every 15 minutes…which was a bonus.
