Plot Summary

In the comedy "Ghost Town," Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) is a man whose people skills leave much to be desired. When Pincus dies unexpectedly and but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, he wakes up to discover that he now has the annoying ability to see ghosts. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear), who pesters him into breaking up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni). That puts Pincus squarely in the middle of a triangle, with spirited results.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: It is alternately tender, sad and smart. It's also very funny. – Ben Mankiewicz, At the Movies, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: This just kind of fell flat. – Ben Lyons, At the Movies, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Ghost Town is both a surprise and a departure: it's genuinely funny and quietly original. It also shows what Gervais can do in the right role. – Paul Byrnes, Sydney Morning Herald, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: In the end, Ghost Town delivers. Right now, we need all the laughs we can get. Especially kindly ones. – Julie Rigg, MovieTime, ABC Radio National, Jun 24, 2010

Superb

I am sad that this movie has had so little/ineffective publicity. My friend got this movie and I thought it was going to be another gruesome horror flick by the title, however, I was delighted to find such a touching comedy. It is rare to find a movie with adequate character development. Ghost Town delivers. I am borderline obsessed with this film, perhaps because I can identify with the main character so well. I can watch this movie over and over again. The soundtrack for Ghost Town is excellent. I have no doubt that if it were released as a compilation (it's nowhere to be found on iTunes, Amazonmp3, or in hard copy) it would be on iTunes' top 10 albums. This movie will not provide cheap laughs like Monty Python, however, it will require the intent viewer to use the full range of his or her emotions, leaving the viewer inspired and satisfied.

Great!

This movie was great! It had everything you want in a movie. Genuinely funny, little bit of drama, a little bit of a message. Definitely worth the watch.

Simply the best

This is one movie that I put on my top movie list of 2008. It is one of those gems that no one really hears about but when watched turns out to be a really loveable film. Staring Ricky Gervais (the funniest man alive), Greg Kinnear, and Téa Leoni. It is a romantic comedy with emphasis on the comedy. Now now do not write this off just because it has romantic in its genre. The story is soooo good and did I mention that this movie is hilarious.
