Plot Summary
Academy award winning director and master storyteller james cameron journeys back to the site of his greatest inspiration - the legendary wreck of the titanic. With a team of the world's foremost historic and marine experts and friend bill paxton, he embarks on an unscripted adventure back to the final grave where nearly 1,500 souls lost their lives almost a century ago. Using state-of-the-art technology developed expressly for this expedition, cameron and his crew are able to explore virtually all of the wreckage, inside and out, as never before. With the most advanced 3D photography, moviegoers will experience the ship as if they are part of the crew, right inside the dive subs. In this unprecedented motion picture event, made especially for imax 3D theatres and specially outfitted 35mm 3D theaters across the country, cameron and his team bring audiences to sights not seen since the sinking 90 years ago and explore why the landmark vessel - more than any shipwreck - continues to intrigue and fascinate the public.

Fresh: Cameron, who produced and directed it, does a visually splendid job, though what he has fashioned comes down to a logistical footnote to his great, primal, heart-of- the-ocean blockbuster.
Rotten: Aside from his CGI ghostcraft unwittingly co-opting Pat O'Neill's last feature, Cameron is entirely predictable in a marines T-shirt, exhorting, 'Next stop, Titanic -- rock 'n' roll!'
Fresh: A lot like a theme-park ride: occasionally exciting but carefully controlled.
Fresh: Documentary dramatizations usually are awful, but in Ghosts of the Abyss, they work.

Awesome Titanic Footage!
I enjoyed this video very much in getting to see the Titanic sitting two and a half miles down. I had never seen most of this footage, and I learned additional facts. I recently saw the Titanic Exhibition in San Francisco on a trip, which displayed hundreds of never-before-seen items, including a side of the ship. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be a passenger, both before the iceberg, and after the Titanic struck the iceberg? As a documentary, it's a worth while video for anyone that has new or old interest in the Titanic.
Cameron's Spirit Makes This Worth Watching.
As far as docy's go, this one is good. It's not exactly loaded with lots new information that we haven't heard before, (and why doesn’t anyone ever talk about the Mummy that was on the ship.) Infact there are not even interviews with survivors in this film. However, Cameron's little-boy-like spirit, and his million dollar underwater exploration toys do break new ground in giving us a peek inside the Titanic. I was left feeling like there was a lot of effort spent on CG effects that are easily left to the imagination, and little effort on bringing to life the personalities, politics, and scandals in this tragedy. Bill Paxton, an actor/director I respect a great deal, hitches a ride as James Cameron's assistant, and at times, the actor seems to be in performance mode, and it gives many of his scenes a feeling of being rehearsed. This disturbingly causes the viewer to question if this is a sincere Documentary. What would you expect? It was made by Hollywood Goliath’s. It's hard not to get excited over the discoveries they make inside the Titanic. Their enthusiasm over the smallest of relics is contagious, and their sensitivity for the ships grandeur and misfortune is apparent. This is a documentary that won’t lose the attention of young teens, but for those hardcore docy viewers who demand more… Just relax, enjoy what Hollywood boys can do with very expensive toys, or imagine what could have been done if you had this budget to work with.
