Plot Summary
In the 1960's, bourbon and money flowed freely in the Parisian neighborhood of Pigalle. Here, the city came alive at night behind closed curtains and in the company of mob men, gender-bending performers and prostitutes who made love without boundaries. Then there was Georgia (Lou Doillon) - alias Gigola - a temptress who dressed like a refined young man and used her charm and wits to rise to the top of the urban underworld. Still haunted by the suicide of her first mistress, Gigola sparks a string of torrid affairs with enchanted women like Cora, a young barmaid, and Odette, an old aristocrat who lavishes her with extravagant gifts in exchange for sexual favors. Based on the long-censored novel of the same name, Gigola captures a little known chapter in Parisian history in which eroticism defied conventional morals. Delightfully filmed with an old-fashioned sense of theatricality, Laure Charpentier's directorial debut is above all a portrait of an audacious woman who forged her own trail through life.
