Plot Summary
Girl Model explores how young girls are discovered in obscure corners of the globe and initiated into the high stakes modeling industry. This eye-opening film follows two protagonists: Ashley Arbaugh, a former model and now scout who scours the Siberian countryside looking for fresh faces; and one of her discoveries, Nadya Vall, a 13-year-old plucked from her rustic home in Russia and dropped into the center of bustling Tokyo with promises of a profitable career.

Fresh: While Girl Model falls a bit short in the delivery of hard facts and incriminating evidence, it more than makes up for that with its knotty psychological profile of Arbaugh.
Fresh: The nonaggressive approach can be frustrating, but it nonetheless gets under the skin-deep promises of glamour and wealth that lure a seemingly endless stream of very young hopefuls.

A must-view. A damning portrait of some people in the modeling industry. Switch should be shut down permanently, and the woman who is the broker should be in prison.
I would like to see the agency shut and the booker in prison as well. The girls are sympathetic .
It is not easy to watch this having heard reports of girls from the west disappearing in Japan, going there in hopes of finding gainful employment, with promises from agencies. You are thinking "right" this creepy woman is selling these gorgeous underaged girls a bag of frustration later leading to life as a prostitute. No one meets them at the airport. The never see a cent they earn and they leave in debt. The booker more than hints at her own exploitation when she herself succumbed to this life as a "model" which brought her into an obviously seedy subsistence. Her answer was to inflict it on others with a smile and a lie. It exists.

Hauntingly indignant
Ashley is a bit of a mental case. She is a true remnant of the after effects of a modeling career. They way she nets young girls into a false dream with the modeling agency is a grave, abusive act.
The whole process is a gross forgery of truth! They should be ashamed of what they are doing to these young people.
