Go For Broke

A first-rate war movie that tells the true and gallant story of the Japanese-American units (the 442nd Infantry Regiment but it also mentions the 100th Infantry Battalion, which was formed first) created during World War II to fight in Europe. The movie conveys a sense of the "tough jobs" these troops got handed to them and the superb job that they did in carrying out their missions--often with heavy casualties. The 442nd Infantry Regiment was the most decorated Regiment in the war, and the movie depicts quite well the suspicion with which the unit was first regarded and the respect these soldiers earned during the war. The movie concludes with newsreel imagery of President Truman presenting an award to the unit, most likely the Presidential Unit Citation. The cast of the film reportedly included veterans of the wartime 442nd Infantry Regiment. Strongly recommended.
