Plot Summary

A first-hand account of young athletes in the high school football-obsessed town of Massillon, OH, this first feature by director Kenneth A. Carlson was shot on high-definition video over the course of the 1999 football season of the Massillon Tigers. At the beginning of the season, the team is nursing a "four-and-six nightmare season" and want to redeem themselves. Meanwhile, school officials attempt to raise funds though a tax levy after defeats at the polls, but if the levy is rejected again, it may mean unemployment for much of the school personnel, including the coaches. In retaliation, the players assume a winning season which puts extra pressure on them to earn scholarships and work much harder than a standard season. Among the handful of players depicted are Ellery Moore, a black defensive end with high ambitions to get out of his small town, especially after it is revealed that he has a shady past which may have included sexual assault. The film also candidly looks at the players off the field, as they drink and taunt fellow classmates who believe that the town has a misplaced sense of priorities.

ohioans?? is that what they're called

Filled with so much passion and energy that you can’t help but get sucked into the way of life in Massillon, Ohio. A town of 33,000 die hard football fans, this documentary has some great game footage and, more importantly, very dynamic, memorable characters that make this film genuinely entertaining. Ken Carlson does a great job at capturing all aspects of this town’s involvement with the Tigers and stays perfectly balanced doing so. Really says a lot about the American way of life.

Fantastic Football Story!!

If you grew up in the Midwest or love football, you will absolutely love this movie. It's an incredibly insightful look at the importance of football in an Ohio town. Even more interestingly, Go Tigers! is a brilliant, up-close look at our country and its complete fascination with everything to do with football. This movie is an entertainment MUST for anyone who's played or enjoyed high school football. You'll watch it over and over.

BRILLIANT FILM! FIVE STARS!

Unbelieveable! Truly remarkable what the filmmakers captured on film! This film should have been nominated for an Academy Award it is so good. I've always wondered what it would be like to live in a small, mid-western town - and now I know! Loved every aspect of this powerful story from cradle to grave! The main character, Ellery Moore, should run for President of the United States -- he's that persuasive! This is a film I'll end up watching over and over! Bravo!
