Plot Summary

God Save My Shoes is the first documentary to explore the intimate relationship that ties women to their shoes. To understand why shoes are the most addictive and seductive fashion accessory, God Save my Shoes journeyed into women's psyches and closets, examining the psychological, sociocultural, and erotic significance of shoes. The quest to decipher why shoes trigger such passion among most women (and quite a few men) took the production to New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Toronto, Milan, and Florence to interview all those who play a role in the global shoe phenomenon: extreme shoe-lovers and everyday women, fashion historians and editors, psychologists, sex experts, as well as shoe fetishists… Witty, glamorous, insightful and sassy, this film brings an offbeat and captivating answer to the universal relationship between women and their shoes. (Includes French with English Subtitles)

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Watching "God Save My Shoes," Julie Benasra's blithely blinkered documentary, is like gorging on empty calories: flavorful, diverting and with a slightly nauseating aftertaste. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Mar 30, 2012

Rotten: Benasra obviously has an affinity for her subject. But her alternately lighthearted and pseudo-serious approach here ultimately proves more wearisome than illuminating. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Mar 30, 2012

Rotten: There's no escaping the fact that Benasra's doc does little more than perpetuate the myth of women-all women-as vapid materialists worshipping at the altar of Manolo Blahnik. – Andrew Schenker, Village Voice, Mar 27, 2012

a must-see for shoe lovers!

"God Save My Shoes" is a fun and witty documentary, which explores the relationship between women and their shoes. Starting from the early history of high heels to modern women and "Sex and the City", the film interviews celebrities, shoe designers, and even sex fetishists, and explains how high heels became so iconic. The people interviewed are all really interesting and funny, and some of the statistics about the shoe industry are unbelievable. It's definitely a must-see for any shoe-lover!

Sole-fully connected

As a high heel enthusiast, I truly enjoyed this documentary. It's a great depiction of the relationship and fascination women have with their shoes.

Great movie!

This is a great documentary! Funny and really informative with great interviews. The history of high heels was most interesting part of the film, and I also loved the interviews with Fergie and Kelly Rowland. Anyone who loves high heels will love this movie.
