Plot Summary
"Godzilla 2000" pits a 180 foot-high Godzilla against an alien life form aroused from it's 6,000 year sleep in the depths of the Japan trench. Two hundred meters wide and shaped like a rock, the alien flies over the Japanese archipelago and attacks Godzilla, who has just crushed the entire city of Nemuro, Japan. Can Godzilla's furious heat beam destroy the gigantic UFO? Is this alien life form an enemy? Is there a future for the humans? The stage is set for an unprecedented battle between Godzilla, the UFO and the Japanese citizens of Shinjuku.

Rotten: Only a diehard fan of the long-running Japanese Godzilla series could love Godzilla 2000.
Rotten: A couple of laughs at the expense of the intentionally horrible dubbing ... and amateurish acting.
Fresh: Godzilla 2000 is yet another traditional Japanese production, weakly plotted, woodenly acted and indifferently dubbed. Yet, for all of that, there is something pleasant and familiar about this old-fashioned home-cooking approach.
Fresh: Though it lacks the antic verve of its mid-'60s predecessors, Godzilla 2000 offers some interesting twists for connoisseurs.

Maybe Godzilla is inside each one of us
Godzilla 2000 is the first and only Japanese Godzilla film that I've seen in theaters. It holds a special place in my heart. Godzilla 2000 is a fun and unique film in the Godzilla franchise. It ignores any and all continuity with other Godzilla films made before and/or after it. After watching GINO, this film helps remove the bad taste left in my mouth. I really like the Godzilla design, and Orga is a new and interesting opponent. This is also one of those extremely rare cases where the American version is actually the better version, with better pacing and some much needed edits. The film has some nice special effects and some shots in the movie are incredible to look at. The music is very nice, and the film has a very nice look and feel to it not found in other Godzilla films. I highly recommend buying it.
