Plot Summary

Academy Award-honoree Peter O'Toole ("Venus," "Lawrence of Arabia") stars in this musical classic about a prim English schoolmaster who learns to show his compassion through the help of an outgoing showgirl. O'Toole, who received his fourth Oscar-nomination for this performance, is joined by '60s pop star Petula Clark ("Finian's Rainbow") and fellow Oscar-nominee Michael Redgrave ("The Lady Vanishes," "The Hill"). Directed by Oscar-nominee Herbert Ross ("The Vanishing Point," "Play it Again, Sam," "The Sunshine Boys").

If You Are A Romantic...And You Have Never Seen This Movie......

Or you are a Peter O'Toole fan....and you have never seen this movie..... Or you only think of the Sixties and the song "Downtown" when you hear the name Petula Clark...and you have never seen this movie..... Or you a lover of movie musicals from "My Fair Lady" to "West Side Story" to "The Sound of Music".... and you have never seen this movie.... Or if you only think of music director and composer John Williams only in connection with film blockbusters of the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond....and you have never seen this movie.... Or you just don't believe it when Hollywood says there is no audience for musicals or "women's films" anymore....and you have never seen this movie.... RENT IT OR BUY IT! (And pull out a hankie!) It is simply a lovely, beautiful film that, unfortunately, they truly don't make anymore.

AS WONDERFUL NOW A IT WAS IN 1969

While I saw this movie when it first came out in 1969 I still hum songs from it every now and then. The score is splendid and O'Toole and Clark have a charm that survives even 40 years later. I'm delighted that iTunes finally made it available.

a great movie dudes

if you have never seen this movie, it's amazing. dudes, this is what all movies are supposed to strive for. peter o'toole is nothing short of amazing. he even makes petula clark look like a million bucks. the earlier black and white version is very, very good as well, but peter o'toole is one of the last of a vanishing breed, and should be cherished at all times.

purchase this movie. you wont be disappointed.
