Plot Summary

Not content with his job as a bouncer, Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) dreams of a more rewarding job and gaining his parents’ respect. When a chance encounter with an on-ice thug leads to a fistfight that Doug easily wins, the onlooking coach sees Doug’s potential, in spite of his lack of any hockey playing ability. Joining the team and with the encouragement of his best friend (Jay Baruchel), Doug quickly becomes a rising star. Soon he’ll have the opportunity to face off against the infamous league thug, Ross Rhea (Liev Schreiber), perhaps finally land a girlfriend, and stick to a job he enjoys. Now all he needs is to learn how to skate.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Behind the film's brass knuckles are tender fingers. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Mar 29, 2012

Fresh: When Seann William Scott uses his fists, he's a star. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Mar 28, 2012

Rotten: Scott isn't bad: He sells the comedy of his character's ingrained politeness as much as the aggression. But "Goon" feels like a movie starring a gimmick, not a person. – Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times, Mar 29, 2012

Fresh: It's made with affection both for the ritual of hockey fights and the strain of sports movies that care more about wisecracks and pranks than winning the big game. – Scott Tobias, NPR, Mar 29, 2012

Outstanding Movie

Simply the best movie I've seen in a long time. I don't get to see too many independent flics but I was really looking forward to this one and I was not dissapointed. The characters where played so well by this cast, It's heartful, action, comedy and drama rolled into a great package. I love the genre. As a hockey fan it really brings you back to a better era of hockey where teams and players ruled and policed themselves. When there was the Star and Goon and everyone followed those unwriten rules and a code of honor that seems lost in todays game.

This is a must see for everyone not just for the hockey fans.

GOON is fire!!!

Best hockey movie yet!!!
