Plot Summary

Gracie Bowen is your average, ordinary 15-year-old girl, who's determined to play varsity soccer - on the boys' team! But when her school forbids her to play and even her family questions her ability, Gracie sets out on extraordinary quest to prove them all wrong. Fighting to change the school's policy and facing off against some of the toughest competitors on the soccer field, Gracie must summon all of her strength and courage, to finally show the world that a girl with a dream can do absolutely anything! This touching and intelligent movie is inspired by the real-life events that followed the untimely 1988 death of William Shue (brother of cast members, Academy Award-nominee Elisabeth Shue - "Leaving Las Vegas," "Palmetto," Andrew Shue - TV's "Melrose Place"). Also starring Dermot Mulroney ("My Best Friend's Wedding," "Copycat") and Carly Schroeder ("Firewall").

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: It's too bad that Gracie's story seems bent on staying on the surface of such familiar turf, rather than digging deeper to reveal what propels her. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jan 3, 2008

Fresh: With so much invested in this film, Gracie represents the culmination of a family dream, so you can't really blame it for wearing its heart on its sleeve. – Lael Loewenstein, Los Angeles Times, Sep 20, 2007

Fresh: Gracie is a gentle, easygoing picture -- it's not exactly dramatically gripping, but somehow, its spirit carries it through. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Everyone who made this movie had his or her heart in the right place, even though they got so much wrong. – Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 2, 2007

yay Carly!

I'm so glad this movie is finally available on iTunes. This story is SO much more than just a girl trying to get on the boys soccer team. It's about someone trying to find their place in life, to see if they really have what it takes to go for their dreams, despite the difficulties faced getting there. Carly Schroeder really stands out in this movie and while she did have stand-in's, the stunts and skills are all her own. (review by Louie Neira)

This was an AMAZING movie! So happy i watched it.

Guess which movie wasn't Sports Movie of the Year

Directed by a man who likes his sister a little too much, Gracie was a film that lacked inspiration. The plot wasn't original and afterwards I pitched the movie into the nearest dumpster. Take my advice and watch the actual sports movie of the year for 2006: Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, a sophisticated film for the modern man.
