Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Once you accept that "Grand Piano" is B-movie pulp, there's a certain amount of fun to be had. This proudly old-fashioned movie will pull any trick in the book to hold your attention. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Mar 6, 2014

Fresh: This thriller set in a concert hall is a stunt, but a damn good one. Maybe risk hasn't died yet in filmmaking. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Mar 6, 2014

Fresh: A not-quite-horror film, Eugenio Mira's appealingly absurd thriller sets out to tickle viewers rather than terrorize them. – Guy Lodge, Variety, Mar 3, 2014

Rotten: "Grand Piano" is an ambitious effort that plays dumb. – Peter Keough, Boston Globe, Mar 20, 2014

Don’t believe the hate. This is great filmmaking.

Most of the people below my review don’t seem to comprehend the concept of a 9.99 pre-theatrical rental. Theirs posts are reflective of that, as this film is a well crafted thriller. It’s concisely executed, tightly directed and features a great deal of suspense, solid performances and lovely camera-work. It’s got dabs of everything from De Palma to Argento to Hitchcock and it honors their work well. If you’re looking for a film that you would have seen in the theater when suspense movies were actually suspenseful, this one is for you. Highly recommended.

2nd to "Don't believe the hate"

If you're looking for "Transformers", move on. But if you're looking for a fine film in the tradition of a great, old Hitchcock thriller, this is the one. It was surprisingly good! I'm not sure from where all the hate below comes. Loved it!!

Fantastic Entertainment

Loved this movie, an absolute blast from start to finish. Highly recommended, can't wait for the bluray.
