This is a good movie
It shows the importance of family.
If you thought the song was awful...
I'm hypnotized by its badness. It's like looking into a black hole of suckage; a train wreck that plays out for a whole 50 minutes, and I'm disgusted with myself for not turning away from it.
Dr. Elmo's back catalogue of horrible songs related to that one (somehow) popular song he did about your grandma getting horribly mauled and murdered by Santa, come out of nowhere in the film. The one grandpa sings about superstars…yeah, that had no point. No real introduction either. It was just kind of there, then gone. Drive-by musical numbers that don't further the story at all. Also, most of the songs are post grandma's death, despite the fact that the special didn't have the guts to actually kill the old broad off, so they're pointless and irrelevant.
The animation is a smidge above average (not bad for a tv special), the story is asinine and cliche, and the dialogue is sappy and generally awful. The characters are pretty standard one note, and those are the ones that actually contribute something to the plot. Other just stand around being ignorant or blabbering.
But how does this apply to you? Well, if you're a parent, this special will probably please the kids okay, but do YOU want to suffer through it? Can you make that commitment? Ask yourself that, and decide. It can be so bad it's funny, but definitely not so bad it's good.
