Plot Summary
A woman's lust for money leads her dentist husband to commit murder. Directed by Oscar-nominee actor/director Erich Von Stoheim ("Sunset Boulevard"). Despite being cut from its original eight hour length, it remains one of the greatest silent films ever produced. Features spectacular Death Valley locations. Fresh: Mr. von Stroheim has not missed a vulgar point, but on the other hand his direction of the effort is cunningly dramatic.
Fresh: Von Stroheim's rep, after a long dormancy, has been on the rise, and this is the best evidence of his work you'll get until someone finds those lost five hours in some Ukrainian subcellar.
Fresh: Erich von Stroheim's Greed (1925), like the Venus de Milo, is acclaimed as a classic despite missing several parts deemed essential by its creator.
Fresh: McTeague is surely a great novel, but one reason Greed is even better is that Stroheim had more lived experience to bring to the material.

Amazing
Even being a fan of silent films, I expected to have to watch this 4-hour epic in shifts - especially watching it at night. However, I couldn't turn it off. It lasted well past 1AM and, though fatigued, I couldn't force myself to stop it and go to sleep. It's that good. Long, but never dull.
Masterpiece....
I am not a fan of silent films usually but this is a stunning showcase of the horror of submitting to the baser impulses of greed...buy it or rent it but give this a full viewing...very happy it's part of my iTunes library...
Erich Von Stroheim
I love most of his movies that are availble. Tho being silent they are the type movies you cant turn your head away from or you really will miss something. This movie along with Queen Kelly ( Gloria Swanson) and foolish Wives are the only ones I have seen hope ITUNES offers more silents as they become availble
