Plot Summary

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, an elite, powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. When a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan. Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal's humanity is one weapon no member of the Corps has ever had, and if with willpower, determination and the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he will save the Earth and all of mankind from certain destruction.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: A relentlessly silly superhero flick with eyeball-rolling dialogue - set in vast, familiar-looking digital realms that look like rejected models from the second "Star Wars" trilogy. – Lou Lumenick, New York Post, Jun 17, 2011

Rotten: Neither amusing nor exciting enough to ensure a long-running franchise. – Mark Jenkins, Washington Post, Jun 17, 2011

Rotten: The result makes the movie seem assembled from bits and pieces of other superhero yarns rather than existing on a plane of its own. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Jun 17, 2011

Rotten: As a disjointed rumble in the cosmos, it's both too much and too little, and too dorky looking. In this case, Green means stop. – Tom Long, Detroit News, Jun 17, 2011

Great movie!

All these negative reviews are ridiculously silly! This was a great introduction to the character of Green Lantern, and Ryan Reynolds is the best fit for the character. The human race has become entirely too critical, and it's a shame because there are so many wonderful concepts that exist. Stop looking for what's wrong in everything and enjoy the art that exists. A lot of people put a lot of hard work, effort, and time into this and many other creations. Green Lantern 2 will have more action in it, and by the way...the character of Green Lantern has a sense of humor, which was also well represented in the film.

Good

i like Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, the story line was ok. Wrong choice for supervillian in Hal’s first outing for a live action movie.

not too bad

I wasn't expecting much from this film. I was pleasantly supprised when I found I actually liked it. The actor they chose wasn't my first pick for GL but R. Reynolds pulled it off far better than I could have hoped for. I would love to see another one with him as GL in a Sinestro as the bad guy. I think it would be even better than the first and hope that it comes sometime soon.
