Plot Summary
In 1991, a young Jeff Buckley rehearses for his public singing debut at a Brooklyn tribute show for his father, the late folk singer Tim Buckley. Struggling with the legacy of a man he barely knew, Jeff forms a friendship with an enigmatic young woman (Imogen Poots) working at the show and begins to discover the powerful potential of his own musical voice. Greetings from Tim Buckley is filled with stirring musical performances and the memorable songs of a father and son who were each among the most beloved singer/songwriters of their respective generations. Great story, excellent soundtrack
I knew nothing of Tim but have downloaded all his music. What a song writer. "Once I was" is one of the most affecting songs I have ever heard… so excited that this artist's work can resurface thanks to this beautiful film.
Breakout Performance
I honestly got goosebumps when Penn Badgley sang at the concert. I had no idea he could sing like that. I hope big things happen for him because he was so impressive in this.
The "Buckley" Sound - Awesome tribute movie
I have been a fan of Tim Buckley since before I went to Nam. His early music kept me sane because it gave me peace and his words had a powerful meaning for me. Greetings from LA is a studio Masterpiece and no song can match Sweet Surrender for how it grabs you. Jeff Buckley was awesome too and so unfortunate that both Jeff and Tim would ever sing together. This movie celebrates Tim, tells the story of Jeff in a way and how he came to grips with the kind of person Tim was. A slightly anguished soul with an incredible talent - his voice and his words and his music - in that order. The final song by Jeff in this movie is amazing and if you "got" the movie it was more than a tribute to Tim, it was Jeff's way of saying "Thanks Dad, I understand now how you were and how the final song he realizes that Tim was asking us all ' Remember Me". Ironic they both died young but man what a couple of powerful voices. See this movie. SEE THIS MOVIE!
