Plot Summary
Academy Award nominee Will Smith (Best Actor, The Pursuit of Happyness, 2006) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, Juno), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again--until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Award winner Charlize Theron, Best Actress, Monster) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past.

Fresh: Hancock makes for one unexpectedly satisfying and kinky addition to Hollywood's superhero chronicles.
Rotten: It doesn't take itself as seriously as it should, and undercuts a final act that should have and so could have packed a mighty emotional wallop.
Rotten: Train wrecks are intrinsically spectacular, and Will Smith's new movie offers a doozy. Two of them, in fact.
Fresh: As popcorn movies go, this is fleet, funny, and even thoughtful: its central question, nicely underplayed by director Peter Berg, is why power and altruism never seem to intersect.

Come on, it's Will Smith!
Does he ever make a bad movie? He might not always knock your socks off, but I bet you will be entertained for a couple of hours.
Most Over-rated Movie of 2008!!
I've got to say, Will Smith has some amazing movies, but he is hyped way to much. It feels like the success of this movie was primarily due to his name across the movie poster, and in the end he did a terrible job. The movie itself starts semi-well and declines as the hero sobers up, leaving the film to be an average super hero movie. In addition, it seems the screenwriters forgot to include an antagonist and haphazardly threw one in during the last fifteen minutes of the film. I understand that Will Smith has an incredible talent, but every actor has a dud and this might be his worst.
