Plot Summary
The sequel to "Happy Feet," the Academy Award®-winning animated smash hit, "Happy Feet Two" returns audiences to the magnificent landscape of Antarctica. Mumble, The Master of Tap, has a problem because his tiny son, Erik, is choreo-phobic. Reluctant to dance, Erik runs away and encounters The Mighty Sven-a penguin who can fly! Mumble has no hope of competing with this charismatic new role model. But things get worse when the world is shaken by powerful forces. Erik learns of his father's guts and grit as Mumble brings together the penguin nations and all manner of fabulous creatures-from tiny Krill to giant Elephant Seals-to put things right.

Rotten: For a computer-animated movie about dancing penguins, it's surprisingly leaden. Not even the impressive voice talent can rev up this clumsy spectacle.

NOT AS FUN AS THE FIRST, BUT STILL A GOOD TIME!
To be honest, I don't really think a sequel to "Happy Feet" was necessary. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the first movie a lot. It had dazzling visuals, a thoughtful storyline and catchy musical numbers. I simply don't think it was the kind of family film that seemed worthy of a sequel. And while "Happy Feet Two" does have more of the same to offer, it never quite reaches the heights of its predecessor. For one, there's the incoherent narrative. It basically revolves around Mumble (Elijah Wood) and his tiny son Erik, who can't dance (unlike his father who can't sing). Because Erik is choreo-phobic, he runs away and seeks advice from a "penguin who can fly" named Sven (Hank Azaria), who quickly becomes the young penguin's role model. But when an earthquake traps Mumble and Erik's entire colony in a surrounding wall of ice, the father and son must gather every creature they can find in order to make things right. See what I mean? Just based on that synopsis alone, you can tell that this movie doesn't know which road it wants to head in. It wants to initially focus on Erik and his dream to become a great dancer like his father, but then, out of nowhere, it presents a completely unrelated subplot that makes the story a lot less fun. I'm not saying that the narrative is entirely misguided, but the writers could've at least made it a little more straightforward. As for the characters, most of those from the previous flick return like Ramon and Lovelace (Robin Williams), as well as Gloria (Alecia Moore), while others are introduced like Ramon's unnecessary love interest Carmen (Sofia Vergara) and a couple of krill named Bill and Will (Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, respectively). Bill and Will pretty much serve nothing to the story and are just used for visual filler and comedic relief. On the brighter side, the animation is still as eye-popping as ever, the toe-tapping musical numbers are a ton of fun and the all-star voice work is undeniably impressive. Still, with a more inspired story and well-rounded script, "Happy Feet Two" could've made for a slightly more entertaining experience. However, for what it is, it's still a decent animated family flick. If you wanna buy or rent it for the kids, go right ahead and do so. They'll enjoy it. But in my opinion, the first movie will always be ten times better.
Personally, I thought it was better than the first.
So many people have commented that this movie was "cute" but "dull and had no plot." My thought is: Wasn't the first one the same way? If I go to the theater to watch a movie on dancing penguins, I won't go for an intense plot, I'll go because I want to squeal at dancing penguins.
And I did. I thought the krill were entertaining and that the plot was kinda cute. A penguin that wants to fly. Aww. And being a die-hard fan of P!nk just made this movie so much better for me. Her new song, Bridge of Light, is a beatiful ballad thatgame me goosebumps :)
I'll most likely be buying this when it comes out.
