Plot Summary
James Stewart gives one of his finest performances in this lighthearted film, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Stewart stars as the good-natured Elwood P. Dowd, whose constant companion is Harvey, a six-foot tall rabbit that only he can see. To his sister, Veta Louise, Elwood’s obsession with Harvey has been a thorn in the side of her plans to marry off her daughter. But when Veta Louise decides to put Elwood in a mental hospital, a hilarious mix-up occurs and she finds herself committed instead. It’s up to Elwood to straighten out the mess with his kindly philosophy, and his "imaginary" friend, in this popular classic that features a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award®-winning performance by Josephine Hull.

Fresh: If you're for warm and gentle whimsey, for a charmingly fanciful farce and for a little touch of pathos anent the fateful evanescence of man's dreams, then the movie version of Harvey is definitely for you.
Rotten: Unhappily, what the film also borrows from the play, and somehow makes more conspicuous, is a tendency to drag its feet for long stretches, especially during the virtually actionless last third of the story.
Fresh: Harvey, Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize play, loses little of its whimsical comedy charm in the screen translation.

Quite possible my favorite movie of all time
Harvey is an absolute work of art. This is one of those rare movies that makes the viewer want to live a better life. The acting done by James Stewart is some of the best I've ever seen, and the writing is top notch. The directing and cinematography are done in a simple, elegant manner that work well in bringing the characters to life. I would recommend this movie to anyone of any age.

It is clever, amusing, heart warming and soul searching. The acting, script and direction are superb. The line about being "oh so smart or oh so pleasant... I recommend pleasant" is advice all can benefit from. You will remember this movie.

I LOOOVE this movie! Its just 2 funny! I'm 13 and i'm so glad my parents always show me the old classics! if only more kids my age watch movies like this! I'm also glad they have 'The incredible Mr. Limpet!' Thank you iTunes! Great movie get it now!
