Plot Summary
Academy Award®-winner Denzel Washington (Best Actor, 2001, Training Day) stars in this must-see story about a convict given one shot at a second chance to be a father! With promises of a reduced sentence, Jake Shuttlesworth (Washington) is granted temporary release from state prison in order to persuade the nation's top basketball recruit ... his estranged son, Jesus (Ray Allen of NBA's Milwaukee Bucks), to play ball for the governor's alma mater! But just as Jesus faces intense pressures and irresistible temptations contemplating his big decision, Jake is also forced to consider not only what's best for himself ... but what's best for his son! With a groundbreaking soundtrack by the legendary Public Enemy -- plus great cameos from John Turturro and basketball personalities Dick Vitale, John Thompson, Dean Smith, and more, He Got Game is a critically acclaimed hit you don't want to miss!

Fresh: Lee may never have the narrow focus to sustain a film on storytelling alone, and he may never need it. What he has here is an explosion of spectacular gambits and a great high-concept hook.
Fresh: The year's first Hollywood movie to burst with palpable feeling.
Fresh: Lacking the moral indignation and militant politics of Lee's former work, this vibrantly colorful father-son melodrama is soft at the center, but it's one of the most accessible films Lee has made and Denzel Washington is terrific.
Rotten: At the end of Mr. Lee's movie, all you feel is the distraction of Mr. Lee's stylistic exhibitionism, without which, I concede, he might not be regarded as a genius in some quarters.

Probably my favorite movie of all time
Nice job iTunes. This is an amazing movie. In my opinion, not only is it the greatest basketball movie, but also the greatest father-son movie. Denzel is on point as usual, great directing from Spike Lee (besides the kind of pointless sex scenes, but hey...can't complain) great photography, and great music (score by Aaron Copland and songs by Public Enemy, works perfectly) . Definitely a must see movie, and I'd buy it if I didn't already have it on DVD. It's nice to see iTunes is putting a lot of Spike Lee movies on here, but I'll wait for Malcolm X.
Wonderful
This movie is a personal favorite of mine. Denzel does a wonderful job and Ray Allen for his first acting job is surprisingly good. You also get to watch Ray Allen, who has the best shot in the NBA shoot jumpshots. It is a must buy.
A must see
