Plot Summary
Get ready for a futuristic love story like no other as Andy Kaufman and Bernadette Peters star in this charming, offbeat romantic comedy. While standing on a bleak factory repair shelf, ValCom 17485 (Kaufman), a robot valet, and hostess robot AquaCom 89045 (Peters) strike up a conversation. What starts as an instant connection soon transforms into love, and the two decide to override their programmed lives and explore the forbidden world beyond the factory window. With the police on their trail and a baby on the way, they're on the digital road to romance and adventure in this heartwarming comedy that is truly "electric."

Original, sweet and underrated
This is a not a movie for everyone but as a child I found it very affecting. Two robots fall in love and escape their factory with a wisecracking third in tow. They are pursued by an over zealous and trigger happy military style robot through the wilds of future Earth. Along the way the couple create a "baby" robot from themselves and spare parts and the synthetic person family search for a life of freedom together. It's all a little silly but it's also very sweet that includes a genuinely bittersweet and heartbreaking moment that might bring a tear to the eye of less cynical and/or younger viewers.
Directed by tv veteran (he's done many episodes of hit shows like The Client List, Franklin and Bash, Heroes, Moonlighting among others) and cult film favorite (he also did Rock n Roll High School and the acclaimed The Temptations movie) Allan Arkush, written by John Hill (a co-writer of Close Encounters of the Third Kind) and a score by legendary Oscar Winning composer John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Superman and many more).
It's safe for the whole family and especially appealing to those who enjoy light sci fi dramedy.
