First Review!

This is a FANTASTIC film detailing the true story of how two girls murdered the one girl's mother in order to stay together. The film focuses on the girls friendship, which is fasscinating and twisted. They delve into their own fantasy world to escape their bleak reality. Their parents become concerned when their friendship begins to border on lesbianism and try to separate them. But these girls won't have any of that...

This was one of Peter Jackson's first films, and it's a triumph. I will warn you about two things though. First, are sensitive to graphic violence, do not watch. Secondly, being Kate Winslet's first film, she overacts in a few scenes, which can be a little irritating. Overall though, the acting and everything else are superb. Great job!

Hmmm....

It was good, although the fantasy scenes were a tad drawn out. The story is fascinating (yes, I'm morbid). It's interesting to wonder why anyone would kill her mother. Did it really never occur to them that they could move to America when they grew up? They would only have had to wait four or five years. Then again, impulsive teenagers live in the moment.
On the other hand, as far as I know they both are still alive. Pauline opened a riding school and Juliet is a best-selling author. Of course they can't see each other. I think it would have been better to wait another fifty or hundred years to make the movie. It is not like Jack the Ripper where everyone who was involved is dead. Juliet once said, "Why can't I be judged for who I am now, instead of who I was then?" I guess I feel a little guilty.
On the whole, it's OK.

Destination...?

Great movie in every way, but... New Zealand not Australia.
