Plot Summary

Heartthrob Tom Selleck ("Magnum P.I.," "Three Men and a Baby") stars as a famous mystery writer who's flipped his pages over a ravishing Romanian (supermodel Paulina Porizkova) who just happens to be a murder suspect. Believing her to be innocent, Selleck provides her with an alibi, but as romance blossoms, a series of bizarre "accidents" befall him, making him sense that this young woman may actually be trying to do him in. Directed by Bruce Beresford ("Breaker Morant," "Tender Mercies") and also featuring William Daniels (TV's "St. Elsewhere") and Academy Award nominee-Tess Harper ("Tender Mercies," "Crimes of the Heart"). WWOR-TV calls this "a delightful romantic escapade designed to win your heart."

Rotten: A romantic melodrama of a boringness to make your average tooth extraction seem preferable. – Vincent Canby, New York Times, Feb 8, 2012

Rotten: He's a mystery writer, she's a mystery; and it's also a mystery how TV fodder like this manages to get the high-gloss, top-talent treatment at studios. – Variety Staff, Variety, Feb 8, 2012

Rotten: Screenwriter Charlie Peters is the predictable piggy whose arrested pubescence informs Her Alibi. When it comes to imagination, he has much in common with his hero. – Rita Kempley, Washington Post, Feb 8, 2012

Rotten: You know a movie is in trouble when you start looking at your watch. You know it's in bad trouble when you start shaking your watch because you think it might have stopped. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Feb 8, 2012

Good Performances

It's a good, intriguing, funny and romantic film. A definate "worthwhile-to-see".

Tom in one of his better performances

I saw this film when it was originally released in 1988, and despite 2 decades it still draws you in and holds on from beginning to end. Tom's Performance is top rate and Paulina is wonderful. A suspense writer, Tom, falls for a beautiful yet mysterious woman (Paulina). She's everything he has ever desired in a woman; intelligent, attractive, and possibly... A Master Spy!! Although the story can be predictable at times, the casting more than makes up for the stilted Hollywood formula. Give this little known, and overlooked gem a viewing. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Soooo worth seeing!

Tom Selleck is always funny, interesting and fresh...even if the movie is over ten years old! Funny in parts, yet serious and seductive in others. If you like Magnum, P.I. then this will be a treat for you, though a little raunchy for little kids. All in all it's a movie you don't want to overlook!!!!
