Plot Summary

Reporting the daily diary of the White House to millions of televison viewers gives Tess O'Brien a power of her own. But when her best friend, Henry Dodds, is kidnapped in Peru her life short circuits. She is asked to take Melody Shepherd, Dodds’ niece, under her wing and welcomes her into her life and home. Melody's enthusiasm borders on maniacal zeal and all too soon it becomes apparent she lusts after Tess's job. Melody uses her intelligence, charm and body to get what she desires, and her craving has no limits. Tess soon finds out that Melody is not in fact Dodds’ niece. But Melody has backed Tess into a corner. All alone, Tess doesn’t know who she can turn to.
