Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A moderately enjoyable, nontaxing sort of comedy.
Rotten: The film works hard at its inoffensiveness. Throughout, jokes are left on the table, setups never pay off in any significant way.
Rotten: Cage fighting is not inherently funny. In fact, it's the opposite of funny, something like cock fighting only with people, and this presents a problem the movie never completely overcomes.
Rotten: [It] delivers repeated blows - to the abdomen, to the head, and to the groin, but not often enough to the funny bone.

A lot of fun without the trash talk
This was a great movie. Adults down to my 6 year old laughed the entire movie. It just shows that hollywood can create a great Comedy without dropping the F-Bomb 100 times.
5 Stars for family friendly
I don't know why it got such bad reviews but my husband and I always find that an AWESOME movie thats clean and family friendly gets bad reviews. This movie was surpriznlgy funny, great moral, and family friendly. I can only equate it to NACHO LIBRE. I loved it and I didn't even want to go see it originally. I bought it as soon as it came out.
clean, no sex, no curse words, and a message of doing something for someone else.
A GENERIC BUT ENJOYABLE COMEDY
The critics may not have liked "Here Comes the Boom", but I actually found it quite enjoyable. Yes, the plot is one we've seen a million times before in other better movies, and most of the jokes are either hit or miss, but Kevin James does a surprisingly great job playing the main character, a high school teacher who trains to become a mixed martial arts fighter in order to raise money for his school's struggling music program and its instructor (Henry Winkler). James stays committed to giving a charming and likable performance throughout the film, making his MMA battles that much more entertaining (even though we all know who wins in the end, right?). Salma Hayek also makes for a solid addition to the cast, despite her role as the generic love interest, and even Henry Winkler manages to bring a few good laughs to the party. So what if "Here Comes the Boom" is a predictable underdog tale? I still had a fun time with it thanks to its energetic cast and feel-good spirit. It may not be the most memorable comedy of 2012, but if you're in the mood for some slapstick gags and a semi-ridiculous sports story, go ahead and give this one a rent.
