Plot Summary
Loud music. Pornography. Lighting fires. These are a few of Hesher’s favorite things. And they are what Hesher (Joseph Gordon- Levitt) brings into the lives of TJ (Devin Brochu) and his father Paul (Rainn Wilson) when he takes up residence in the garage uninvited. Grief stricken by the loss of TJ’s mother, Paul can’t muster the strength to evict the strange squatter and soon the long-haired, tattooed Hesher becomes a fixture in the household. Like a force of nature, Hesher’s anarchy shakes the family out of their grief and helps them embrace life once more.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Not even Mr. Gordon-Levitt's unremittingly savage performance can begin to salvage such hokum.
Fresh: As played by the spectacular Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hesher is the id run rampant. Even when the script edges him into Hallmark sentiment, you can't take your eyes off him.
Rotten: It's unflinching stuff, and might have worked if there were a reason for any of it. Levitt, Portman and Wilson work hard to infuse the film with some likeability.
Fresh: Susser, who wrote the film with David Michod, has a kinetic filmmaking style and an impish, crash-and-burn sense of humor that keeps sentiment at bay long enough to let us appreciate the loose, uncomplicated performances...

Really bad
I couldn't understand how a movie with jgl could be so bad, but this was. The concept is good, the execution was awful. The acting is bad as well, the characters aren't fully developed and you never really care about them. And how old is this kid supposed to be? He looks about 12 and why is a grown woman(portman) seeking his approval and trying to befriend him and why is hesher stalking him and how does hesher freely walk through a school without someone calling the police and why does the kids dad let him hang around with hesher? There are so many flaws in the storyline,,,,...save your money.
Great Feel
The film is really good, it has its sad moments, a lot of drama, and the acting is GOLDEN! Very different and realistic.
Well Played =)
A must see if you ask me =)
