Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: The drinks and their consumption look mighty glamorous in "Hey Bartender," Douglas Tirola's tidy and ingratiating documentary ode to high-end mixologists.
Fresh: The colorful, fast-paced documentary "Hey Bartender" celebrates the renaissance of the craft cocktail and the men and women who mix them with rock star aplomb.
Rotten: This isn't the cocktail doc enthusiasts are waiting for.
Fresh: What carries the doc is Tirola's expansive, democratic spirit-his understanding of the value of bar as meeting place, not just a stage for bitters and booze.

Great Documentary
This documentary reveals the reemergence of the cocktail culture beautifully. I caught a screening of this movie at the Village East Cinema and loved it so much that I had to email the movie studio to find out when it would be become available for download. They quickly replied that it's already on iTunes and I in turn quickly proceeded to purchase and download it.
This documentary grabs you from the start and doesn't let go as you follow the lives of 2 very different bartenders. One a bar owner of a popular neighborhood bar in Connecticut. One an up and coming bartender at a world class cocktail bar in NYC.
I feel this documentary legitimizes the bartending profession. Something the general public and society needs to know and truly appreciate.
Whether you're into the "liquid culture" or not if you can catch a screening of this movie in a theater in your hometown you will not be disappointed. I promise you'll be compelled to download it once you get home as I did.
Cheers!
A lot of passion!!!
This movie related to the alcohol, liquor and spirit. A lot of passions and story of each bartender that behind the bars. As Rome doesn't build in one day the great bartender as the same. Sweat and tear behind the bar to make a perfect drink. I am so delightful after watched this movie.
Well Mad Doc!
I love how this documentary presented the culture of bartending while also focusing in on a few bartenders to give me an emotional investment in the people being shown on the screen. This movie did a great job of showcasing the passion surrounding bartending and the bartending revolution that has emerged since the 1990s. I recommend this to anyone who has wondered what it is like to work behind the bar, especially on those really busy nights.
