Plot Summary

Johnny Case (Cary Grant), a free-thinking financier, has finally found the girl of his dreams - Julia Seton (Doris Nolan), the spoiled daughter of a socially prominent millionaire - and she's agreed to marry him! But when Johnny plans a holiday for the two to enjoy life while they are still young, his fiancée has other plans - she wants Johnny to work in her father's bank! As he tries to decide whether to follow his head or his heart, Johnny can rely on at least one Seton in his corner. She's Linda Seton (Katherine Hepburn), the down-to-earth younger sister of his soon-to-be-wife, and she likes Johnny just the way he is.

Customer Reviews

incredible dialogue, timeless story, funny, smart, fast paced and sweet....

One of my favorite Cary Grant/Katherine Hepburn pairings. I think it's better than Philadelphia. Fast paced dialogue, great humor. A timeless story about society, money and real love. The characters are so likeable. The drunk brother, the snobby family, the smart friends. The sets are incredible....they don't make them like this anymore. Highly recommended.

Witty, Hilarious, Fun

Just fantastic all around.

Excellent and Underrated

This is a great pairing of Cary and Katherine. It's a smart movie with subtleties throughout the storyline. If you're a fan of either of the leads, then you'll thoroughly enjoy the movie. If you can enjoy sharp dialogue and excellent acting without worrying where the story will end, then you'll love this movie.
