Plot Summary
Since their young daughter died in a tragic accident, Jack and Stephanie have built walls around their hearts that the other can't possibly penetrate. But their inner darkness is child's play compared to the evil that lurks in the walls of their House. Imprisoned with another troubled couple in a house of true horrors, Jack and Stephanie are forced to play a one-night game of life and death with a crazed murderer… and each other. When they come face-to-face with evil, they discover it is instantly recognizable.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The backstories keep piling up, with nods to The Shining, The Ring, and a dozen other gothic supernatural chillers, yet the result doesn't remotely scare you -- rather, it keeps explaining why you should be scared. That's why we're not.
Rotten: Thankfully, the villains...keep things entertaining when they're on-screen, but too often take a backseat to tediously obvious flashback sequences.

a decent, "feel good" horror flick
Some commenters have called this a "Christian horror move." Maybe the book was different, but, although one of the authors of the book is reputed as a Christian author, there is nothing overtly distinctively "Christian" about the movie - other than the citation of a Bible verse at the beginning (about light and darkness). There are some religious themes, such as good and evil, alienation and forgiveness, and the idea that moral choices influence one's fate, but these are not peculiarly or exclusively Christian ideas. The generically religious values are also evident in the production/contents of the movie; as others have noted, the movie does not contain offensive language, nudity/sex, or gore (though there is violence and fighting). It's R-rating must be for pure suspense/horror (and some violence I suppose). Insofar as there are religious or quasi-religious themes in the movie, they are not in your face but are instead more subtle, and they make the movie far better than it would be without them (by, e.g., adding layers of conflict at moral and emotional and psychological levels, contributing to character development). I thought the acting was fine, but that the production in general could have been better. My main complaint in this connection is that, at just an hour and a half, they could have made it longer; and they should have, for much of the movie (especially near the end) transpired in a relatively rushed (and therefore sometimes confusing) manner. But, the story itself was of a good enough quality to make the movie enjoyable.
Peretti's great
I read the book a while ago and was happy to see they made it into a movie. It's not as great as the book (although not many are). However, I think it's a great movie. It shows the difference between good and evil and they do that without the cursing, nudity or violence. I definately recommend this to anyone. If you wanna watch another good movie from author Peretti, try watching Hangman's curse
A movie that will throgh you for a loop
To be honest Im a hugh horror fan and a Christian ( I know weird combo) so i will be byest. This is a great film all the greatness of a truly scary film but no of the uslessness (nude scences, gore, cursing ect..) The thing I think I loved most about this film is the spin on every thing from life and death, heaven and hell good and evil is so well done. Truly a movie that will scare the crap out of you if you look at this like there is really a devil versus God for your soul. Altho I dont like demond movies (Exorcist, skelliton key, The Omen) this is a really good one defintly worth watching.
