Plot Summary

When a suicidal patient reveals that his gambling debt has him at the end of his rope, dedicated psychiatrist Margaret Ford (Crouse) enters into the shadowy underground world of gaming to help him out. At a seedy casino, she boldly confronts Mike (Montegna), the con man who holds her patient's markers. Duped into a high-stakes poker match, Margaret becomes intoxicated by Mike's mastery, as he both cheats at the game and charms her. She quickly falls for him, turning a blind eye to the fact that he's a swindler who can't be trusted. And before long she finds herself sparring in a mental poker match of the heart with deadly consequences!

Customer Reviews

Fantastic!

Twists and turns kind of story. A must see for everyone! This movie proves that no matter your education, class, or background, no one is above getting conned!!

A Classic Thriller

The art of the grift, teacher and student, this film is refreshing and so enjoyable. There are very few films I will watch more than twice and this is one of them. The movie has an artsy old fashion kind of backdrop which makes the story even more appealing. It's about the art of a con and how the thrill of being included in a con can be very arousing. The movie is written and acted very well and there is a lot of twists and turns to the story.

Not Mamet's Strongest, But Good Enough

This is Mamet's first directing gig and...it shows. It's very rough and you can smell the stench of twist coming from 20 miles away and Lindsay Crouse is not too good. So I'd reccomend The Spanish Prisoner before this one, most definitely.
