Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's not precisely the Edgar Allan Poe short story that emerges in House of Usher, but it's a reasonably diverting and handsomely mounted variation.
Fresh: Corman's filmmaking runs on unchanneled energy and apocalyptic emotions; his is an art without craft.
Fresh: The film is riddled with strangeness and decay, which more than compensate for its clunky moments.
Fresh: The sickly decadence and claustrophobia of the Usher household is admirably evoked by Floyd Crosby's 'Scope photography and Daniel Haller's art direction.

Really great movie!
This is the ultimate horror movie! Whenever i am asked what my favorite horror movie is I resort to this! Although there were a lot of changes in this movie compared to the story. I also love how this movie is about 80-85% loyal to the plot of the actual story the fall of the house of usher. It seems as though nowadays directors use Poe's story titles and throw away every part of the plot. That's a movie you shouldn't watch.
Great story but Not so great of a movie!
The Fall of the House of Usher was a great story that I read when I was in school and the book itself was much better than the movie being that the house DID NOT burn down in the end of the book as it does in the movie. In the book there is much more depth as to how the house got destroyed. The movie does not match up too well with the story so therefore it was kind of disappointing to me but if you are a fan of Edgar Allan Poe this is one NOT to be missed!
what the %$&@!
it had noting to do with the story
