Plot Summary

Half of the fun of writer-director Andrew Jenkins' feature debut "a heist film that gets everything right about a crime that goes all too wrong" is keeping track of who is doing what to whom and why. Who is robbing the bank? What are they after? These are the simple elements that keep rearranging themselves in this clever indie crime flick as Jinx (Nick Stahl) and Jessica (Erika Christensen) find themselves trapped inside a vault, with bank-robber Simon (Gavin Rossdale), stuck on the other side of the vault door, and the police stuck outside the bank. A fresh, freewheeling take on a genre perennial, this IFC film playfully hits the reset button every time things seem to settle into place.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: An 81-minute movie that runs out of ideas well before the halfway point. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: Andrew Jenkins' amateurish, half-hearted romantic comedy-cum-heist film twists itself into unconvincing knots to pull off a guilt-free bank robbery. – Ronnie Scheib, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: It seems especially depressing when so-called independent filmmakers have nothing on their minds except aping the style of Hollywood's hip caper movies. – Stephen Farber, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: So objectively awful it ceases even to be a reflection of writer-director Andrews Jenkins's non-talent, How to Rob a Bank calls into question the distribution filtration process that should protect delicate consumer eyes from things like this. – Nick Pinkerton, Village Voice, Jul 7, 2010

informing and entertaining

i've seen movies like the bank job, the itallian job that have action and afventure in them, this movie doesn't happen like those 2 films do but inside one place and the problem the lead character faces is getting out alive. also the story behind why he's there is straight forward enoug but it focus' around why all of us are being screwed today by bank machines telling us about our real problem... SURCHARGES and in the end we find out how to beat the system and take charge of the surcharge in life... i reccomend buying the movie if u want both a great story and a little odd/funny moments but also see a way in which how banks really steal from people and how they RIP YOU OFF AND LAY OFF POEPLE AT THE SAME TIME... it's time you see where ur change goes

How to rob me of 4 bucks

I'll think twice before I watch an IFC movie again.

Run Away Now!

This movie is TERRIBLE. Thought it would be a cool indy flick with some random actors, but I was so so wrong. Not worth the electricity I had to pay to run my computer to download.
