Plot Summary

The most quirkily offbeat and one of the best of the “Beach Party” movies starring Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello, “How to Stuff a Wild Bikini” finds Frankie off in the navy, serving in the South Pacific. Worried about all of the guys that will be hitting on Dee Dee (Funicello) back at the beach, he convinces a magician (Buster Keaton) to conjure up a siren, Cassandra (Beverly Adam), whom no man can resist. Cassandra succeeds in distracting all attention away from Dee Dee. However, a mentally unbalanced advertising man (Mickey Rooney) decides to make Cassandra’s unstoppable sex appeal a national obsession, and she gets noticed by bike gang leader Erik Von Zipper (Harvey Lembeck), who vows to make her his. Throw in an unusual disappearing pelican and mayhem (and fun) ensues!

My favorite of the Beach Party series...

This would have to be my favorite of the Beach Party series. You know why? Because the ever-annoying Frankie Avalon only makes a small appearance and the smart and funny Annette Funicello is the main star. I can only take Frankie in small doses. Also, the Von Zipper gang is not taking over the whole movie. Plus, the music is the best in this one. I love it, floating cartoon bikinis and all. :)

Fun movie and a real taste of 1965!

I have to wonder who writes the plot summaries that show up here on iTunes, as so often they're VERY off the mark, and make the movie sound like something it isn't - the summary for this movie being a prime example.

A "disappearing Pelican"? The bird never disappears per se, he just leaves from time to time. And Buster Keaton isn't a "magician" - he's a Witch Doctor and he makes the Pelican so the bird can keep an eye on DeeDee while Frankie is busy worrying that DeeDee will be unfaithful but all the while wooing a cute island girl.

Finally, the advertising exec mentioned (Mickey Rooney) is far from what I'd call "unbalanced". (What is that supposed to mean??) He's just very animated and a puppet of the head of the advertising agency, and has no idea that Cassandra is a Siren.

Finally, look for a very sweet, fun little cameo appearance at the end of the film from a certain other witch we all know from TV - though if you're under 30 you most likely won't have a clue who she is or what show she was from. (She plays Keaton's daughter in this film.)

It's a fun little film with actually really decent songs this time around and it's fun to see Annette get more screen time and to see less of Frankie.

Rent it or buy it...but see it.
