Plot Summary

Academy Award® nominees Bill Murray and Laura Linney star in this delightful look at one of the most pivotal meetings in history. As Great Britain faces an imminent war with Germany, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Murray) and his wife, Eleanor (Olivia Williams), invite the King and Queen of England for a weekend at their home in upstate New York. But during the first-ever visit of a reigning British monarch to America, international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR’s domestic establishment, as wife, mother, and mistresses all conspire to make the royal trip an unforgettable one. Hyde Park of Hudson is a charming and fresh look at true events and the mysteries of love and friendship, from the acclaimed director of Notting Hill.

Rotten: Roger Michell's brightly lit film turns America's 32nd president from world statesman into naughty codger, quite the fall from grace for the man who led his country through the Great Depression and the Second World War. – Peter Howell, Toronto Star, Dec 13, 2012

Rotten: Hyde Park on the Hudson' is a forgettable historical footnote. – Richard Roeper, Richard Roeper.com, Dec 18, 2012

A dopey movie...but

Yes, it is a dopey movie... but it is not a documentary. Most of the negative reaction is probably from people who cannot imagine using their beloved FDR as a vehicle for a somewhat comical movie - how dare one disrespect the God of Liberalism.
That aside, this FDR is has very little in common with the real FDR except they both live in Hyde Park.

I really wanted to like it...

I really like all these actors, and I can't imagine how they became involved in such an absurd movie...
Some nice visual things, but the story is sooooooo dumb.

Kind of smarmy

Should have been cute and light with undertones of the threat of world war, but somehow it just comes out smarmy and off-putting.
