Plot Summary
Based on Anne Holm's novel "North to Freedom", I Am David chronicles the struggles of a 12-year-old boy (Ben Tibber) who manages to flee a Communist concentration camp through sheer will and determination. All he has in his possession is a loaf of bread, a letter to deliver to someone in Denmark and a compass to help get him there.

Fresh: Clearly, huge tankers of disbelief must be suspended in a sea of goodwill to get into the spirit of the film.
Rotten: Essentially a tearjerker, with little originality or insight.
Rotten: Falls prey to the defect of all poor road movies: In gluing together unbelievable but convenient episodes with sugary sentimentality, it loses most of its credibility.
Rotten: I know, I know, I'm supposed to get sentimental about this heart-warming tale. But I couldn't believe a moment of it, and never identified with little David.

What a great family movie, a GREAT movie.
Three splats on rotten tomatoes? Three splats to them. Critics are like the Weatherman, almost always WRONG. They don't have any faith or sentiment anymore, they've lost it all on all of the R Rated violence and sex, that they can't appreciate the simple and true and faithful things in life. In short, they've given up hope to hopelessness and cynicism. I am here to say that God does watch over us, miracles DO happen, and life although hard, can have some pretty special things happen. There are almost no coincidences. Our whole family LOVED the movie. It was moving.
BEST MOVIE EVER
I Saw this movie 4 years ago one of the best movies i've seen. The plot was well put together and the ending was awesome. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who loves good movies.
One of the Best movies ever and many people don't know about it
I found this movie by accident and now it is one of my favorite movies. Great story and acting. One of the best out there.
