Plot Summary

I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS is the improbable but true story of a spectacularly charismatic conman's journey from small-town businessman to flamboyant white-collar criminal, who repeatedly finds himself in trouble with the law and on the lam, brilliantly escaping from the Texas prison system on four separate occasions - all in the name of love.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: At best, I Love You Phillip Morris may be hailed as a necessary step in Hollywood's fearful crawl toward sexual evenhandedness; the film upholds the constitutional right of every gay man to be as much of a liar, a crook, and a creep as the rest of us. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Dec 8, 2010

Fresh: This isn't great farce, but it's more than good enough. And Carrey is more than good enough in it. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Dec 9, 2010

Fresh: Carrey makes the role seem effortless; he deceives as spontaneously as others breathe. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Dec 9, 2010

Fresh: Yes, some familiar Carrey tactics are on display, but the star's performance has real heart - it's easily the best thing he has done since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer, Dec 17, 2010

Hilarious

I was amazed that this movie was ever released. It is way to unconventional in its subject matter for most hollywood studios. Having said that, I am so glad that it did. It is an amazingly funny love story between two amazing actors. I loved it.

BlackFace for Gays

If you had a couple of white guys in black face 'shuckin and jiven' singin lordy masser I knows I dun wong,

then you'd hear outrage and indignation from the black community.

A couple of straight guys portray men who love men as effeminate loathsome immoral sycophants and it's a cool Indie flick?

If the only way you know a person plays for the other team is if they act stereotypical, then this piece of offal helps the straight community to refine their gaydar.

For a MAJORITY of gay men - just another confirmation of how we should act in order to know our place in society - effeminate and therefore according to straight masculinity - ineffectual and beneath contempt.

Ha, ha. Can I have my money back now?
No sense of humor - after the pain, suffering and innumerable suicides of my brothers - no, homie don't play dat.

Excellent Movie and performances

This move was released overseas a couple years ago before studios released it in North America. I have a short attention span and when watching movies at home I tend to watch them in segments, if they're not that entertaining. But with this movie I watched it from start to finish, it's a very entertaining movie. Jim Carrey never disappoints, he did an excellent job portraying the gay character. Very funny. Unfortunately for the guy who this movie is about, isn't laughing as he's sitting in prison forever. Unfortunate to put all his intelligence to waste.
