Plot Summary
From Mike Judge, one of the creative minds behind Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, and Office Space, comes an outrageous sci-fi comedy that'll make you think twice about the future of mankind. Meet Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson). He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Fresh: Mike Judge's Idiocracy is absolutely a satire for its time. What Judge is less sure of here than in his previous, perfectly pitched live-action comedy Office Space, is how to build a complete movie around his key ideas.
Fresh: Judge has a gift for delivering brutal satire in the trappings of low comedy and for making heroes out of ordinary people whose humanity makes them suspect in a world where every inch of space, including mental, is mediated.

If you're stupid, you will hate it. But just because you hate it doesn't mean you're stupid...
If you can see the irony in the fact that so many of the 1 and 2 star reviews here use bad grammar and poor spelling, you might love this movie. It's about a future where, over the course of 500 years, evolution selects stupidity as a beneficial quality: Stupid people simply breed faster and less selectively than smarter people. And since we've geared society to comfort and enable these morons, their numerical advantage has put them at the top of the evolutionary ladder. In return, and on the verge of total societal collapse, what's become of the human race has narrowed its cultural focus to the lowest common denominators — fast food, sexual objectification, crass toilet humor, wrestle mania and monster trucks — at the expense of everything else, even self preservation.
Morons need not apply
This movie is extremely smart and funny and so true that it is scary. The irony is that the movie did not do well in test screenings and Fox dumped it in only six markets with no advertising (probably to fulfill a contractual obligation). I guess all the Napoleon Dynamites of the world did not like seeing their stupidity in a bad light. They should have had screenings at all the Ivy League Universities. I feel that the tag line of this movie should have been, "If you don't like this movie, then you're an idiot!"
This Is Not A Comedy
For anyone with an I.Q. greater than 110, this is a horror movie. Fortunately, the humor keeps its subject matter from being completely unbearable. Obviously, this film does have its flaws, but disregard the negative reviews and complaints found here. Many of these are obviously coming from people who just don't "get it." This film does not point and laugh at people from certain geographical areas like the South and people from the Great Plains, as is suggested by another reviewer. Spend enough time in our urban centers and suburbs and you'll find a growing number of the American population speaking the way most of the characters in this movie do as well. For those who think what's going on in this film could never happen or isn't happening, open your eyes and see the symptoms - declining test scores, devolution of the English language and an inversion of Natural Selection that favors the lazy and stupid over the quickest and the brightest is only the beginning. This movie shows the terrifying possibilities of where we could be headed just like "Soylent Green" did back in 1974. I'm just glad I won't be around to see it get that bad.
