Plot Summary
Pre-theatrical! Starring Academy Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden! Madelyn Reid accidentally learns of her husband's infidelity when she saves his sexy young mistress, Leonor Watling ("Talk to Her"), from a bungled suicide attempt. When her unsuspecting young rival suggests the two new "best friends" take each other's advice – on everything – Madelyn sees an opportunity to seize the upper hand. But the plan backfires when the aspiring young actress insists Madelyn keep her end of the bargain – and orders her to star as King Lear in a very amateur production, with Lucy playing The Fool. Things really get out of control when Lucy starts giving Madelyn instructions on dealing with an amorous coworker and a handsome stranger (Aidan Quinn). Marcia Gay Harden gives a hilarious, touching and utterly believable performance in this delightful comedy about two women who become the unlikeliest of friends.

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Buried in the bloat of Joan Carr-Wiggin's interminable "If I Were You" are the seeds of what might have been a lean, snappy farce about duplicitous, adulterous games.
Rotten: If anything, that Harden shines in such a problematic starring role only reaffirms her stature.
Rotten: Harden is a wonderful actress but struggles to find the complexity in so strained a situation.
Rotten: Bloody awful.

King Lear -finally brilliant with Marcia Gay Harden
People throw around the description Tour-de-Force a little too casually but in the case of Marcia Gay Harden's character it certainly is the best to use. I cannot say I thought the actors playing her husband and his lover were the right choices but then the writer-director gives us the jewel actors Valerie Mahaffey and Aidan Quinn, both are perfectly cast and add so much to what Marcia's character is going through.
I can't begin to say how much I wish I could see Marcia Gay Harden's entire performance as King Lear. The scenes in this movies are brilliant.
Filmed almost like a stage play
I thought this movie was a real gem. Using a Shakespeare technique of a play within a play (which was indeed a Shakespearean play!) the result was pitch perfect. The plot was very clever. I loved it and will watch it again.
If I Were You
Personally, this movie is a cross between a comedy and a drama. I loved the trailer I watched but cried a lot as well. I suggest you all watch it and hopefully you'll like it as much as I did. This is a movie I am going to download right now. I'll let you know if I change my old mind. 🙈🙉🙊
