Plot Summary

An extraordinary journey to the top of the world, To the Arctic is the ultimate tale of survival. Narrated by Oscar® winner Meryl Streep, the film takes audiences on a never-before-experienced journey into the lives of a mother polar bear and her two seven-month-old cubs as they navigate the changing Arctic wilderness they call home. Captivating, adventurous, and intimate footage brings moviegoers up close and personal with this family's struggle to survive in a frigid environment of melting ice, immense glaciers, spectacular waterfalls, and majestic snowbound peaks.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Good on you, polar bears, and kudos to the cinematic expertise that captures them, especially underwater. – David DeWitt, New York Times, Apr 19, 2012

Rotten: MacGillivray, a specialist in gigantic-screen nature movies including The Living Sea, is up to date in his use of 70mm IMAX film, but he's stuck in the past about how to tell a story. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Apr 18, 2012

Fresh: Unless you're rich, it may be the closest thing to being there. – Scott Bowles, USA Today, Apr 19, 2012

Fresh: Imax auteur Greg MacGillivray alternates between intimate wildlife saga and majestic views of the North Pole, offering strong visual compensations for its meandering structure, syrupy tone and excessive sampling of Paul McCartney's back catalog. – Justin Chang, Variety, Apr 19, 2012

Not about the Arctic but Global Warming

If you want to depressed about the world and global warming this is the movie for you.

Best IMAX

One of the best IMAX movies I've ever seen! It's the most stunning cinematic movies ive seen in a long time. Stunning shots, narrated by Meryl Streep and the soundtrack by Sir Paul McCartney isn't to bad to list to either :) the people behind this amazing movie are trying to help save the arctic and who live up the one world one ocean. Amazing work on both.

Short and depressing

This movie makes a lot of extreme environmental claims without any substance to back them up.
