Plot Summary

In Heaven There is No Beer is a documentary about the Los Angeles 'Kiss or Kill' music scene (2002-2007). Fed up with wretched Sunset Strip pay-for-play policies, too-cool-for-school trendiness of the Silverlake scene and apathetic crowds, the bands that made up 'Kiss or Kill' forged their own scene based on great music, cheap booze, low cover and a mid-western sense of community and friendship. At its peak, 'Kiss or Kill' had more than 100 bands on its roster and over 1,000 local L.A. fans. But as 'Kiss or Kill' grew and got more popular, it eventually became the very thing it was fighting against.

Great Movie For Anyone Who Was Involved In A Music Scene!!!

This was a great fun movie about all the fun, friendship, love, drama, drinking, and of course the music. Even though this movie is about a music scene that I was never involved in I could identify with and kept finding myself reminded about all of the good times friends and bands I had seen and spent alot of my life with in my own town. Lots of cool bands that I had never heard of in the documentery and I imagine in such a giant music pool of Los Angeles this was a pretty cool little scene to have happened and been a part of... Good spirit of DIY, good music and worth a watch. I loved it...

I'm off to checkout some of the bands now, especially Midway which probably one of the funnest bands I never got to see...

Can't drink beer in Heaven, but you can at least watch a kickass documentary while here on Earth

I wasn't around to experience the Kiss or Kill scene, but after watching director David Palamaro's raw and unfiltered documentary I feel as though I practically lived through it. The bands…the music…the drama, it's impossible not to find yourself believing you were right there in the thick of it. It's easy to mistake the vivid memories from those who lived them it for your own.

Though you're aware from the get go the movement eventually comes to an end, you'll still find yourself hoping time stands still for the Kiss or Kill players, and their reign over LA's underground music scene could continue to this day. It's almost a cruel irony that the success and notoriety these artists so greatly deserved is what led the scene to its undoing. It's ultimately a tragic, yet poetic fact of life that all great things must come to an end, sometimes because they become too great for their own good. Watching the epic rise and ultimate decline of Kiss or Kill is a compelling and beautiful journey. This lover of music is grateful to have been given this experience through this A+ documentary.
